Inconvenient boot when roof down ...off. The renault card is fun and funky, but we have already had to take it back because depressing the clutch didn't start the car. Not a real problem until you are in the automatic car wash and have to press the brake to start the car - bit scary for the car behind! There is a bit of wind noise even when the roof is up, but not that bad compared to soft top cars and easily ignored. It isn't a sporty accelerator ......torque even up hills and is a very easy drive. Our single biggest problem with the car is the doors. It is a 2 door car and the doors are huge and heavy. Whilst the door size is good for accessing the rear of the car, it makes it almost impossible to open the doors without hitting the car next to you and sometimes in tight car parks, you can hardly get in or out of the car. (A big warning here for anyone else is never to park next ... more Okay, so it had always been my wife's dream to have a convertible and whilst our wallets and ability to maintain a car wouldn't stretch to her dream of an old style MG - never mind the problems of having a little one and no space - we were really taken when we saw the new coupe-cabriolet Megane.This is a really comfy car and the 20 seconds to put the roof up or down really is amazing - and such fun to see people stop and look at you (only done it once sitting at traffic lights when it started to rain - car has to be stationary!)When the roof is down it changes the whole way you drive, no longer do we find ourselves racing to get somewhere, instead we take the country lanes and pootle along, loving the air streaming past (very little impact on wife's hair do!) and the sun baking down on you.Even in the winter months, when the sky is blue and the sun shining, you can crank up the heating system and roll the roof down.There are two rear seats, which fit our 5 year old and mother in law in with no bother at all. My m-i-l has to go behind my wife, as I need a little more leg room and I wouldn't recommend it for four adults for anything more than a show off trip with the roof down!On a fuel economy point of view, it is okay. We average about 35 miles to the gallon, which is largely driving around town, with the odd spurt on the ring road of Derby up to 60mph! (The excitement of this kills you...)As far as spec is concerned, we went with a CD multichanger which is pure laziness, then cloth seats throughout as the thought of baking on leather with the roof down just didn't appeal.With the roof up, the boot is huge. We can easily get our luggage in for a fortnights trip away, though haven't tried the tent in there just yet.There is a little roll along 'net' which has to be in place for the roof to come down. Once the roof is down it takes up about two thirds of the boot, and leaves only a 6 inch gap to put things into or take them out of the boot. So in practice, you have to put the roof up before you use the boot. Hardly a great hassle, but sometimes you forget.The roof down option does force you to keep the inside of the car quite clutter free - otherwise you see it all blow out of the car and across the carriageway. There are plenty of lidded compartments at the front for this, but not at the back.It comes with immobiliser and alarm. Despite the claim that the alarm will work with the roof down, in practice that's bobbins. Automatic headlights (great til you get in another car and forget that the car doesn't turn it's own lights on), racing car filler cap, clever sensor windscreen wipers and so on.It's a lovely car and we really enjoy driving it. Having had a convertible car now, I don't know whether we would ever consider going back to a fixed roof car (although our other car is a Scenic which we love as well).We paid £17 000 for the car (or at least continue to pay for it) which is pricey, but worth it. As with almost all renaults, it has 5 star NCAP safety rating.It's not a practical car at all, but it does combine a little bit of sensible practicality for a family with an awful lot of fun. After all its about £1,500 less than any other deisel version I had seen. I had read awful owner reviews with moans about leaking seals around the roof and the car being slow / sluggish but this has not put me off getting one. I will be the first too admit it does not drive as solid as my c220 Mercedes did but the Merc did not have keyless entry, folding glass roof into the boot , push ......works alot faster on these cold mornings. So far the Megane has put a smile on my face whenever I get in it and at 50 years of age I like my material things around me to give me some pleasure!! The mpg figures are also pleasing at 40-44 mpg on the average computer figure (55 mpg on long journeys) and the car has surprised me how quiet and responsive it is.
