From the first day the car has been driven hard its been very very reliable things that have worn have been the ball jints (£10 a side to do very quick of you have to DIY it) and have been down to total abuse and have taken many miles to wear and were all covered under warently without query. The car is now on 73k having had the cambelt done reciently at a cost of £170. The service I didn't have done as such due to the fact it has no more warently with it but would have cost ~£250 to have done. I get about 10k to a set of brake pads and tyres and at the cost of £45 for a tyres and £17 for brake pads I cannot complain. The brakes on the car are stunning for a such a small shopping car they are massivly overrated having being pulled fro the 150hp last generation Williams I have only once suffered brake fade on a track day (bedford which if anyone know it will fade any car brakes quick) Compaired to the 1.2 petrols its sligtly slow at the top rpm it is much easier at low rpm to drive though and since they have quite heavy clutches it makes for better town driving IMO (not that i do much town driving). Mpg on 1.2 for me is about 30mpg the dci does 50~55. The worst i've seen in 29.9 on a track day on road you'd be challenged to safely do under 37mpg. Space on the car isn't amazing I'm 6, 5 so there no rear legroof for any passnegers but thats not a problem as I'm 99.999% on my own having only had bad seat passengers a few times. The boot isn't huge but its only a small car. I've had 7 spare wheels in the back of the car with the back seats down and some spare space for tool kits so its not bad realy. Specification on the car is superb for the market. It seems better speced that cars in a group catagory. I crashed the car just before it was a year old and it saved me I cannot thank Renault for the safety products the car has inbuilt. Its a shame Renault dealerships couldn't fix the car though properly even now 3 years later I'm finding evidence of the shoddy workmanship. Parts which have been changed on the car Alarm issues early in life (I paid for this as an optional extra but its common issue) Pretensions wiring needing fixing. (again another common propblem due to design) Ball joints have been change ever 20~30k or so but again thats down to track day use. Most cars on over 150k will be on original ones. Dampers needed chnaging at 55k I opted to aftermarket Bleistein ones for £150 which were cheaper than Renault and sold as original spec so no insurance implications. Pre heater was changed but that seems not have been causing a proplem Renault delaership did this out of due cause. The radioator has only just got damaged again so another new one is needed £90 for one new from Renault. No other owners seems to suffer though so its most likly down to the driving I do and the fact i live in the countryside. Its important to chnage the oil though every 9k IMO regardless of how you drive. Oil filter and air arn't as important also run it on the better diesel fuels. The car might well have the record of being one of the slowest accelerating cars in the UK with a 0-60 time of 15 second but its more like 13.7 as tested by diesel car magazine . The top speed of 100mph is more like 105mpg and given a incline I've hit 116mph on the gps with 3 people in the car (indicated about 125). If anyone is interested on track day driving then to give you an idea I'm not a good driver but with the rull showroom spec it will get round the nurburg ring in just over 10 minutes round Oulton park in 2.30 and Donnignton park short cicuit in 1.47 . That puts it about 15% slower then the Renault sport models with 100hp extra and better suspension setups. It will do 100mph on the motorways in Germany for long distances fully loaded with no issues, even doing 37mpg at over 100mph. The engine has been faultless though it has become much more powerful over time and with the extra oil chnages I've given it after racing a 1.4 16V at a private airstrip (honestly it was i don't race on the road). it was very close and that car has 100hp. Comapired to a Mk3 1.4 Clio at the same event the top speeds on the runway was 93mph vs 90mph in my car and that was a pure stright line race with the same style setting off. the gearbox isn't stunning I have replaced the oil and it has made the shift a bit more mechanical less like stiring porriage but its definatly not the cars strong point. The interier isn't to eveyone choice its more mature than the Corsa SXi but I prefere this is some ways. The cabin is well put together it rattles a bit but the materials used seem better which is quite the oposite of my brothers Yaris which I feel is well put togther but with cheap tinny parts. The sunroof which giving a nice amount of light into the cabin rattles a lot it has been rebuilting 3 times by Renault but I've grown used to it. Runnign costs are great though DIY serviing (excluing the £170 cambelt at Renault) are about £70 every 18k/2 years even if you change the oil at 9k. Pads would last at least 18k and at £17 from halfords (and there not the cheapest) and new disk at £60 again from halfords (agin not the cheapest supplier) and road fund at £50 for a year with the low insurance gorup its superb. The only issues regards the dci engine is the computer controlling it if you do have issues you need a Renault dealership often to fix it and the parts arn't cheap althouga nbraknd new ngine can be bought for £1.25k brand new crated up from specists. A big advanatge of the dci over its 1.2 engine car is the tunning potential 400 or so of custom remapping will see about 95hp (stock is more like 70hp not th 65 advertised) and with an intercooler (say £200) you can see 110hp.
