others have been written off or exported! This sale also includes the relevant R111 WAV number plate! I am the second owner of this Megane.I have love and cherished this car from the day I bought it. It has been an absolute pleasure to own and puts a huge grin on my face from the moment the titanium exhausts burble upon startup.I spend hours weekly polishing, waxing and detailing this car. Even removing all wheels and rear lights when needed to make sure that no buildup can occur on any part of the car. Only the best products have been used on this car when needed, such as Mequirs and Autoglym. This Megane has only been run on BP Ultimate Unleaded Fuel, serviced by Renault and always warmed up and cooled down, like you would any turbo`ed engine. As you will most probably know, these cars are fully kitted out this everything needed for an all out track car. Although this is made for this purpose, I have never taken this car on the track. Here is the spec:Number 111 of 230 made Includes number plate R111 WAVK tech 3`` de-cat pipe costing £214.00Titanium Exhaust SystemK tech racing MK2 front mount intercooler costing £538.00Stage 2 RS Tuning map 278bhp with sheets to proveCarbon Loraine fully cintered race padsMichelin pilot sport 2 tyresTitanium exhaust Full roll cageCarbon bonnet10,879 miles on the clock6 Months TaxMOT 1/7/20122Carbon Fibre Sabelt Sports Seats with R26R Embossed Logos - £7000 to buy!Alpine Radio CD System with IPod ConnectionFull Roll Cage with Race Harness BeltsElectric Windows18" R26R Alloy Wheels finished in blackAs you can see, this is the ultimate hatch back! | Renault Megane Renaultsport R26 F1 Team | For Sale is my much loved Renault Megane R26. I have owned from new, originally purchased from Renault Orpington...>
at a cost of over £22,000.00. I opted for the Renault ID colour, Liquid Yellow with the Xenon HID upgrade which is undoubtedly the best combination and makes the car more exclusive. As you can see from the photographs I also chose to have the subtle sticker pack added to avoid stickers appearing all over the car, which in my opinion would detract from the overall appearance. It has every possible optional extra available: Cruise control, Traction control, MP3 CD player, Xenon headlights, Heated electric mirrors, Limited Slip Differential, Climate control. | All the belts have just been changed (Cambelt etc) all the 07/57 cars will be due this and it is a considerable expense (£1500 from a main dealer, mine was changed at a local Renault specialist) the car was serviced at the same time | Tyres are Michelin Pilot Sport 3, an upgrade from the factory Pilot Sport 2`s. The alloy wheels are good condition all round as they too have just been refurbished. | It drives superbly, with the reassuring whistle of the turbo as you accelerate through the gears. It looks like a new car, it has just been professionally valeted, there is the odd mark as you would expect from a used car, with the only ones of note are on the rear bumper (a graze around 1.5 inches) and a small dent in the roof (looks like the result of a tree branch, I had not noticed it until taking the pictures) The interior is spotless, including the Alcantara Recaro seats. | Additional points to note: The car has been serviced throughout its life (except 48,000 mile service) but I have no documents for this as I had a house flood on 18th December and the manuals were discarded by the insurance company`s appointed cleaning company. The airbag light is illuminated, this has been investigated and there is no fault but the light cannot be switched off. I have priced the car taking into account these points. The car is not taxed but has 9 months remaining on the MOT, which it passed with no remedial work required . | 72,300 miles all motorway miles | Always run on V Power | 230 BHP (0-60 in 6.3 sec`s) Half Black leather Recaro seats MP3 CD in dash surround system | ABS, DSC | Privacy GlassAir Bags galore (passenger can be turned off) iso-fix child seat points in rear Cat 1 Renault Alarm/Immobiliser | Remote Central Locking with boot lockPower Steering | Air Conditioning/Climate control | Heated rear screen | De-mist function front screen | Mot until September 2012 | Good Luck and Thanks for looking. Any questions feel free to call on 07595 530377. 55k miles with 2 previous owners who`ve taken very good care of the car, full renault history and not due a service for another 3k miles or so, Taxed and MOT until March 2012. Goes without saying that is is also HPI clear, so not been written off, stolen or has any finance owing on it. Also recently had a brand new set of Toyo Proxes T1 Sports all round in the correct 235/40/18 size.Car is Deep Black metallic with body colour mirrors and the Oe R26 wheels redone in red. It also has full decal and badge delete, not a fan of the standard sticker kit and chrome badges. Side badges and front/rear diamonds have also been refinished in matt black. Exterior and interior was superguarded from new.The car has the usual R26 bits such as LSD, Brembo brakes, Recaro front seats, folding mirrors etc. It also has the option climate control and has an ipod input cable for the original stereo. Otherwise it is mostly standard apart from a few sensible modifications.-Ktec/Pipercross air filter element in modified standard airbox-Ktec uprated silicone intake pipe and crossover pipe, black. (Original parts included)-Stage 1 remap with printout for smooth and reliable 265bhp-R26r style shortshift modification-R26r style carbon rear spoiler-Upgraded grooved discs and pads-Goodridge stainless steel braided hoses with Motul fluid. (Original parts included)It has recently had a full brake fluid change and also a gearbox oil change so the car basically needs nothing for a good while. Let’s take a look back at thirty years of F1: a challenge in sporting, technological and – above all – human terms. The result is not just a sporting achievement but also a source of pride for the entire company. Renault makes its debut, with turbo technology 1977 - Formula 1, Castellet circuit, Jean-Pierre Jabouille Who’d have believed it?   Renault caused a few smiles when it entered F1 racing in 1977. What was a volume manufacturer doing in the closed world of Formula 1? It has to be said that although Renault’s first sports model was equipped with a revolutionary turbo engine, it had an unfortunate tendency to finish the race in clouds of billowing smoke. As a result, the British dubbed it with the rather unkind nickname of Yellow Teapot.   First successes   Led by Jean-Pierre Jabouille and René Arnoux, the Renault team gained in confidence over the years. The technology improved and the drivers became more assured. The first success came in 1978, when the team took fourth place in the USA. In 1979 Jabouille won the French Grand Prix. At which point the skeptics started to sit up and take notice.   Aiming for the top   Alain Prost joined the team in 1981. The future quadruple world champion won three Grand Prix events in France gave Renault a third place in the Constructors’ championship. The following season, the team won four Grand Prix events and consolidated its position, representing a great technical and human achievement for Renault. Renault, a talented engine manufacturer 1991 - Canada Grand Prix, Nigel Mansell At the end of 1986, after several highly successful seasons, Renault disbanded its team in order to focus on engine development. A recognized innovator and trailblazer, Renault became the official engine manufacturer of other teams. A fruitful partnership with the Lotus team, lead by Ayrton Senna, paved the way. Between 1989 and 1997, Renault supplied engines for the Williams team and then for Benetton.  With its V10 engine, Renault wrote a new page in the history of F1 racing. It was a strategy that clearly paid off, since Renault was recognized as the best engine manufacturer of the 1990s. The V10 engine ultimately gained more than 4,000 rpm and became 20 kg lighter. And the sporting results speak for themselves: Renault picked up 11 titles as an engine manufacturer through its partnerships with Williams and Benetton. The age of maturity: 100% Renault 2006 - Canada Grand Prix, Montréal, Renault R26 and Fernando Alonso It was only in 2002 that Renault returned to the track, making its comeback with a 100% Renault car: the R202. Straight away in 2003, Renault notched up two pole positions, four podium places and one win. The secret? A closely knit team and – above all – the arrival of a young driving ace: Spain’s Fernando Alonso.   That year, the charismatic young driver became the youngest Grand Prix winner in history at the age of just 22 years and 26 days!  The alchemy between Renault and Alonso continued to work in 2005, when the team and its young protégé won both the Constructors’ and Drivers’ world championship titles. At the age of 24, Fernando Alonso became the youngest world champion in history.   After a nailbiting season, Renault managed to clinch both titles once again in 2006. After a low-key season in 2007, Renault had better times 2008 with two victories by Fernando Alonso.   After thirty years in top-level motorsports, the Renault team can still look forward to a bright future!   Discover Renault F1 Team official website InnovationInnovation policy Site map Contact FAQ RSS Legal information Credits © Renault 2010 || Skip Links Skip to navigation Skip to primary content Skip to secondary content Skip to tertiary content Skip to footer The independent Christmas Appeal: All it takes is a few feet of uplift to give a family a stable home Motoring 2° London Hi 6°C / Lo 2°C Query: Go Popular Topics Headlines Love i? After a couple of false starts, the latest sporty Mégane is a winner. A very powerful hot hatchback with front-wheel drive, a limited-slip differential, and a mission to be the top choice for those of us who still love driving? A couple of weeks ago, it was the Mazda 3 MPS, which proved a curiously uninvolving drive and so missed the point. There was something of the problem found in the first Renault Mgane 225, a car too civilised - gagged, if you like - to be really exciting. Since that Mgane there have been other versions of Renaultsport's medium-size fast hatchback, most notably the Trophy (a good step in the right direction) and latterly the limited-edition 225 F1 Team. OK, it was in effect a Trophy with a fancy paint-job, but it had a soul. So, what's new about the livid yellow car you see here? The length of its name, for a start: Mgane Renaultsport 230 F1 Team R26. The excuse for its existence is Renault's victory in this year's F1 championships. More significant is that the Renaultsport engineers (one of whom, like me, keeps a Peugeot 205 GTI as a hot-hatch reference point), have continued their quest to make the Mgane a real driver's car. There was never much doubt that they knew what was needed; the problem was how to do it with modern chassis systems. As the name suggests, engine power is up from 225 to 230 bhp. Its CO2 emissions have fallen enough to drop it into the next-lower tax band, from 207g/km to 200. Two things bring on the extra energy: a small rise in the turbocharger's boost pressure and a less restrictive silencer that makes more audible this engine's characterful throb between 2,200 and 2,800rpm, giving it an aural signature lacking in many of today's cars. This throb, and the surge of energy felt the instant you press the accelerator, set the mood for the drive. I'm heading for the Ardèche Gorge in the south of France, a fabulous road with short straights linked by every shape of bend, where I shall discover the effect of the changes to the ultimate Mgane's suspension and steering. The Mgane range has undergone a facelift which, among other things, brought in a new electric power-steering system. The so-called Cup suspension system - the extra-sporty one - has its own steering settings with less artificial self-centring and less aggressive assistance when turning. Getting the subtleties of assistance right is a challenge, helped here by more powerful electronic processors. The effect is to make the steering feel more fluid, more consistent, more natural. In the very first Mganes, you had no idea what was going on under the tyres; if you ran into wet leaves or ice the steering felt the same. It was unnerving. The latest Mganes are much better, but the R26 takes things to a new level, with different spring and damper settings and a rear anti-roll bar added. All these changes, together with the 235/40 R18 Michelin Pilot Sport 2 tyres, help tip this Mgane from mere competence to the free flight of brilliance. But here we must bring in the final, crucial ingredient - that limited-slip differential. Made by the Japanese arm of the British company GKN Driveline, it ensures that at least a third of available engine torque is sent to the front wheel with less traction. This ensures that the maximum 229lb ft of torque isn't spun away on a bend by the inside front wheel in a haze of tyre smoke, so both wheels can give of their best in pulling and steering the R26. Like the Mazda 3 MPS, the R26 gives a little sideways tug at the front when you accelerate suddenly. Unlike the Mazda, though, the Renault doesn't seek to distance you from the experience as though you're playing a video game. Nor does it scrabble this way and that, sniffing out cambers and verges like a manic spaniel or a Vauxhall Astra VXR, thanks to the optimum geometry of its front suspension. It's the perfect balance between these extremes, and huge fun on a road like the one along the gorge. Brake hard; big Brembo brakes firm underfoot, tireless in their task. Turn; feel how little the R26 leans, how tautly it changes direction. Accelerate; feel the power flow to the road, nose pulling to the exit with no desire to wash wide. Too fast into the next bend? Brake more deeply into it, feel the tail go light and tighten the line, but controllably, no danger of a slide. Then up the next straight, the engine's full-bodied thrust letting you choose whether or not to take it towards the rev limit. It's happy either way. It's fantastic fun, this Mgane that finally makes it to the top of the hot-hatch pantheon. The six forward gear ratios are just right for a spirited drive or an easy cruise; the R26's traffic manners are impeccable; it even rides quite well over bumps. I'm standing back after one of the best drives I've ever had, contemplating the R26. The front wings are plastic, and the right-hand one has gone soft with the residual heat. You don't have to have the scattered-squares graphics, but I like them. There's a numbered plaque by the handbrake, too - "my" car is No 3 - although this isn't a limited-edition car. I'm trying to think of a better mid-size hot hatchback available now than this, and I can't. I said the Renaultsport engineers know exactly what it takes to make such a car, and here, in the R26, is the proof. The rivals Vauxhall Astra VXR £19,120 Terrific idea - handling by Lotus, 240bhp turbo, eye-catching styling - but the VXR can feel fractious and hyperactive. Mazda 3 MPS £18,995 The fastest and most powerful front-wheel-drive hot hatchback of them all, yet it's a curiously unexciting drive. VW Golf GTI from £20,360 Expensive, but matches your mood like no other. Its 200bhp turbo offers ample pace. Too much road noise, though. The car was driven by Fernando Alonso and Giancarlo Fisichella. Over the course of the season it scored 8 wins out of 18 races, and was the most complete package in most of the year,[citation needed] followed closely by the rival Ferrari 248 F1. The R26 helped Renault in claiming the Constructors' Championship with a 5-point advantage over rival Ferrari, and also taking Fernando Alonso to his second Drivers' Championship in succession, 13 points ahead of rival Michael Schumacher. It brought the last Constructors Championship in recent history to tyre manufacturer Michelin. Like its rival the Ferrari 248 F1, the R26 was notable for its rock-solid reliability, chassis R26-03 driven by Fernando Alonso started and finished in all races of the 2006 season without the need to be replaced (F1 drivers usually go through multiple chassis in a season), it also led more laps and won more races than any single chassis in 2006 in addition to winning the world championship[1]. R26-03 now sits at Renault’s “Histoire et Collection” heritage collection in Paris. The R26 was succeeded by the R27 for the 2007 season.
