Whilst I have owned it much recent work includes; Full service, Cam belt and pulleys etc. At this time the alternator/power steering belt was replaced. Both front wheel bearings have been replaced. Also a front lower wishbone at time of MoTT. Previous to my ownership it had just had brake discs and pads replaced and a full service. The bodywork is very sound (no corrosion) with some scratches to the paintwork, a small scrape to one sill + a small dent on top of the rear N/S wing and the usual carpark trolley dings. Overall it is very original and has not been involved in any accident or paint repair work. ( Clear HPI report available to purchaser). Mechanically it is excellent and is a very economical diesel (Averaging 50+ mpg) It has the six speed gearbox. On a recent touring holiday (1000 miles plus) it used no oil. The engine is the more powerful 80 BHP which makes it ideal for use on motorways, the 5 speed manual gearbox is really slick, the power steering makes the car easy to handle. The car also has ABS and traction control. The car has all its original handbooks and a spare key. drive, i have been averaging between 44 and 48 Mpg but on a run to Stoke i can get up to 56Mpg. This is a 1971 A110 1600S which is a genuine Factory Group 4 car, with a Letter from the factory on file confirming the authenticity of the car. It is a genuine Dieppe built Alpine also, not a licensed car, It left the factory on 13th July 1971 as an A110 1600 VB (1600S) finished in Alpine Blue and was supplied to Renault Italy in Group 4 configuration, It was also specified with the large chassis & large brakes.The car has remained in Italy all its life and is road registered. In the early 1950s, French competition cars were few and far between, and it was left to a young French engineer to redress the balance. Jean Redele, whose father ran a Renault dealership in Dieppe, initially used a modified Renault 4CV in a variety of events and rallies, his endeavours being rewarded with a Coupé des Alpes in 1950 and three 750cc class wins in the 1952-54 Mille Miglias. It was then that Redele decided to build his own cars, appropriately choosing Alpine as the marque name. Societe Automobiles Alpine was duly formed in 1955 with the A106 as the first model using modified Renault 4CV running gear. The following year an A106 won its class in the Mille Miglia; notably a Sport model was to join the line-up in 1959 using Alpine`s first tubular backbone chassis. Variants with up to 950cc engines followed - a steel bodied A107 was dropped - before the A108 of 1957. It was 1963, however, when the most familiar body style appeared in the form of the Renault R8-based A110 which used 1,100 to 1,800cc engines during 15 years of production. It also cemented an enviable competition record, its rear engine layout a major advantage in international rallying. Such was its success that the Dieppe concern became Renault`s official competition arm in 1971, when Alpine repeated its 1969 feat of a 1-2-3 in the Coupes des Alpes; in 1973 a 170bhp A110 also won the World Rally Championship and the following year Renault took control. Interior: The Black interior is in a good useable condition but not perfect by any stretch of the imagination. You have two occasional seats in the back and a luggage platform. The seats are firm with no rips or tears and all the dials and guages work as they should. A superb period cabin which could be tidied or just enjoyed as is. Exterior: The body is, of course, glassfibre and really the paint finish is very good although there are some scuffs and dings and scratches as you would expect from a well used example. The wheels are the large Gotti items and the tyres are all good. All the glass area is also good. It is currently finished in Red but could be returned to Alpine Blue as you choose. Mechanical: The engine bay and 1600 engine are very clean and the car starts and drives perfectly and will come freshly serviced and ready to go. The gearbox is the large 5 speed box and changes smoothly. Summary: Our car is a good useable car that has been with the previous owner for over 10 years. It is currently road registered in Italy and can be registered anywhere as all EU taxes are paid. Whether you are looking to go historic racing or, like me, have always wanted one as a daily driver, you will not be disapponted in the A110 or in this particular car. It is simply the coolest car on the roads today! These cars have an amazing pedigree in competition and after a quick drive it is immediately obvious you are in a well developed machine. The car is a perfect competitive entry to many historic events and is so rare I am sure it will be an early choice. It is rare to find a good French Alpine at the moment and the car presents very honestly. It is also priced competitively as there are some standard 1600 cars in the same price bracket. and it has been a real pleasure to drive. I have had 9 months of trouble free motoring. My car has been looked after with no expense spared, the first thing i did when i purchased the car was have a new timing belt fitted (this is very expensive from Renault) I have the reciept for the work carried out. I have recently had new disks and pads on the front, again with receipts.Anyone who knows anything about the 172 Sport will know how quick these cars are, they perform and you get a great MPG. It also has the CD Multi changer too. This is a FANTASTIC example of a 172, it has 84000 miles on the clock, It is HPI clear, i have the report. I will be sad to see her go but my driveway isn`t big enough for 3 cars. There is 12 months MOT and it`s taxed until June 2012. This is an honest, unmolested car which has been well looked after, there are a few little scratches, nothing major and a little dink on the pillar of the passanger side door, as I`m honest I think it`s worth mentioning. Never been damaged or repaired previously. Had 4 new tyres in December 2011 by previous owner and since then have only covered about 800 miles. Interior is in mint condition with now rips or tears. Never been smoked in. Never had dogs or cats or children by the looks of it. Clutch is spot on and gear change in nice and smooth. | The Bad Bits | The reason I am seeling this car as the engine has blown!! i had all 4 injectors replaced on it trying to solve a knocking noise, this however did not solve the problem. upon starting the engine and allowing it to run for a while to diagnose the problem further, the bottom end blew. All the oil has leaked out through sump. The engine is no good. | i will be removing the injectors, fuel pump, head and turbo as these are worth good money as parts.
